In memory of my cat

A sad week watching our 18 yr old cat get worse with her breathing - the vet said last week that she had swollen Thyroid glands which were making her sound as tho she was constantly purring...or snoring. It came on quite quickly, tho she's been thin for a while so you can't help feel guilty. By Thursday I couldn't stand it any longer so took her back to the vet Friday morning & that was it, she was gone. No doubt in the vet's mind tho which is always a relief.

 cat cards

I feel pretty side swiped but really wanted to mark Sconser's memory so I carved a couple of little lino blocks, about 2 inches & used them for cards.

 sleeping cat

I scoured the internet for 'how to draw a cat' info but it's tricky. Obviously you have to observe so I will practice on Willow. I'm so glad we have her here.

 small lino blocks

I really wanted to draw a peacefully sleeping cat all curled up. Considering I've only tried twice I'm pleased with the piece above the lino blocks on gessoed teabags & papers ground.

If I'm going to improve I thought I'd better stick these few sketches into my sketchbook before I loose them. I will practice but oh to draw like Valerie Davide on Robyn's lovely blog post! End of an era, tho, Willow will start a new one.

Sorry to hear about your cat. It is very hard when a family pet dies. You have captured some lovely images in your sketch book.

So sorry about your cat. It is is so hard to lose a treasured family member, especially one who had been with you so long. Our Fluffy died at 20 in October. I still miss here.
Your prints are lovely - what a special tribute to you cat.

My sympathies, Emma, on the passing of your dear cat. Our cat - the only one - will be 21 on the 24th of this month. He really shows signs of his aging, yet still continues to stay around. He is not an "in house" cat, though the past nine years he has considered a nice sized storage room (with an outside pass through) his domain. He is locked inside at night, so that has helped him, I'm sure. I am not good at keeping him as groomed as he should be. That is an area for improvement.

I'm so sorry about your kitty. It sounds like she didn't suffer for long, though, which is a good thing. Much love to you.

I'm so sorry, Emma, to read of Sconser's passing. Our furry family members are precious, and leave a huge hole behind when they leave us. The house seems suddenly too quiet, doesn't it?
Your cards and lino blocks are a lovely way to treasure Sconser's memory. Blessings

I'm so sorry to hear about your cat - it is very hard, losing a pet that you've had for so long. The printing stamps are great - especially the sitting-up cat.

Very sorry for your loss. It is always hard to lose members of the family and Sconser certainly was that. Glad you have Willow to help you through the grieving period and these very inspired carvings and art pieces surely also help. I'm glad he had such a full life with you.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss.
My cat, Scooter, was 19 1/2 when he passed, 7 months ago. I am still often in tears.
I do love the lino blocks you made, especially the one of the cat sitting upright with a long tail; it reminds me of my boy. He was always an enormous cat, despite hyperthyroidism, and he had a very long tail.
Your cards are a lovely tribute.
Cats ARE tricky to draw, especially black ones, I think, as it is harder to get the character. The expressions and nuances are far more subtle than on dogs, which I find are easier to do!

))hugs to you and Willow((
